“We all look out our own window.” This expression exemplifies the aesthetic and drive of one Reuben Walton. Walton is an Indie Soul artist based in New England. Walton's involvement in music has been a long-term passion. His interest in music began as a welcome escape from family turmoil and from dealing with feelings of extreme isolation and a longing for acceptance and belonging. These feelings stemmed from growing up on the autism spectrum in exurban Massachusetts as a gay man.
Through his innovative song and lyric writing and production, Walton’s gift for blending vulnerability and humor draws from various musical and cultural influences. His standalone single, “Get Out” is a sassy, self-assured kiss-off about kicking toxic people to the curb. “Much of my work, especially lately, emphasizes empowerment and sensitivity. At the same time, having a sense of humor helps take the edge off the heartache,” says Walton. He’s been part of various choral ensembles and became inspired by unorthodox lyrical and tonal mavericks such as Björk and Portishead, as well as contemporary Hip Hop and R&B.
His ear for melody and rhythm is the common element unifying his body of work. In 2019 he released a self-titled EP in collaboration with LA-based producer AVLI Music and has now shifted to a strategy of regularly releasing singles. Career highlights thus far have included performances at UMass Lowell's annual “Mothers of Rock” concert and various venues in Massachusetts and the Greater Boston area. He has certificates from the Musicians Institute in LA in their Electronic Music Production and Independent Artist programs. He is also a graduate of UMass Lowell’s Music Business undergraduate program. Currently, he is supporting The Zyg 808 on his Build / Destroy Tour, and readying a whole new batch of adventurous single releases for later in 2024.
